Join host Ben as he chats with Jordan Koene, SEO Strategist and Advisor to Searchmetrics. Together they chat about domain splitting and its relation to SEO.
Ben starts by setting the stage for companies that have large websites. Companies that have a lot of content and content that is produced by guest authors tend to have a lot of extra pages, thus enters domain splitting.
Domain Splitting is the art of taking a large site and segmenting or splitting it out into Top Level Domains (TLD). Companies will take pieces of their website and assign them to a very specific domain. Ben uses the example of his own website to showcase domain splitting. His site first hosted information about himself as well as his podcasts. But when his MarTech Podcast got too big, he purchased a separate domain and moved all the content from his own website to the MarTech site.
Jordan describes the playbook for how he helped Ben with domain splitting. The first step is content mapping, you need to determine where your content will go. The second piece is figuring out how you will set up the content in the new domain. How will you categorize your content is critical to how you will redirect it from your old site. Jordan also dives into some of the other things you need to be aware of when you split your site.
