Episode Overview:
Join host Ben as he speaks with Searchmetrics’ Senior SEO Consultant Kathy Brown to review the latest announcement from Google regarding core web vitals. Together they discuss what companies should do to prepare for web vitals’ rollout in the new year.
Google announced within the last week that web vitals officially go live in May 2021. Simply put, web vitals are a new ranking factor that evaluates how quickly a page loads, its interactivity and how much the page jumps around once it loads. Vitals’ criteria ultimately evaluates how stable and usable a webpage is for the user.
The best place to begin reviewing website performance according to web vitals’ criteria is Chrome user experience reports. Users can generate reports that provide feedback on web vitals and other page speed metrics. Google’s transparency is appreciated, but their data dashboards still don’t provide all the information necessary for web vitals. Users still have to pull SQL queries manually and insert them in report generating tools.
