Episode Overview:
Join host Ben as he speaks with Searchmetrics’ SEO Strategist and Advisor Jordan Koene as they explore the latest Google news. Together they examine the fallout from Google’s ranking and indexing bugs and the impact anti-trust probes will have on the search giant.
Google released further insights about the bugs that affected their platform revealing it was a canonical dictation and mobile indexing issue. The indexing issue affected 0.2 percent of its URLs, causing ranking issues for roughly two million pages. Google issued a statement they’ve begun to fix the issue but an official confirmation that the issues are fully resolved have yet to be announced.
Google is also facing greater scrutiny from the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust on whether they possess monopolies in the tech industry. Despite intensified scrutiny, the subcommittee is facing difficulties in determining what monopolies Google possesses due to how large it is. Although they’ve determined Google definitely owns a monopoly on search, its ecommerce endeavors make it difficult to clarify its other monopolies that it shares with competitors like Amazon.
