Black Friday on a Tuesday?

GUESTS & RESOURCES

Episode Overview:

Join host Ben as he kicks off Black Friday Predictions Week with Searchmetrics’ VP of Services Tyson Stockton as they make predictions for Black Friday. Together they review the prediction that instead of Black Friday occurring on its namesake, it’ll be a month-long event.

A majority of the top 10 ecommerce sites are already running Black Friday promos on their homepages except for three in the group; Amazon, eBay and Etsy. Best Buy, Walmart, Home Depot, Target and Wayfair are running ads on their homepages and TV, but aren’t phrasing them as Black Friday ads. Many of the ads are rolling throughout the month of November into December.

The longer ad campaigns are beneficial for SEOs, as it gives specialists more time to optimize their pages and course correct compared to a single-day event. Although total sales figures aren’t in just yet, more sales are expected around the traditional day of the event. Tyson predicts sales to follow a bell curve, slowly ratcheting up at first, peaking on traditional Black Friday, and falling on a downward trajectory as time goes on.
